Carnival is a week-long extravaganza of parades, balls, theatrical performances, concerts and general
tomfoolery which each year attracts over 100,000 spectators. Apparently having their origins in the
centuries’ old traditions of scaring away evil spirits and welcoming in the new spring, the festivities turn
this coastal town into a riot of colour, creativity, fun and laughter. So if you’re looking for an alternative
